Music and Movement
“If you cannot teach me to fly, teach me to sing.” ― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
Imaginative exploration of music and movement in a supportive and fun environment that promotes bonding, child development, and self-expression.
MOVERS AND SHAKERS
Toddlers age 2-3 and children age 4-5 are grouped. Children gather around our signature circle rug to engage in a 30-minute class that focuses on a different genre, instrument and skill each month. Classes are coordinated with the other teachers at Starbright in order to mirror what the children are learning each week. Tonal and rhythmic work is a regular focus during classes. Regional musicians make regular visits to classes and most classes will conclude with a participant performance. Get in touch to find out more or to collaborate with us!
BABY AND ME
Babies up to 18 months and their caregivers attend 30-minute classes that incorporate creative arrangements of traditional nursery rhyme favorites and introduce participants to the music of established and celebrated children's musicians. Sensory props are used throughout classes!

MOTHER, SOCIAL WORKER,VOCALIST
A Natural Music Teacher
A native of both Hazard and Danville, Kentucky, Amy grew up performing and is from a musical household. Originally a theatre and vocal music major with a focus on Spanish Theatre Music at Sweet Briar College, Amy finished a degree in social work at Murray State and began working in Child Protection. After becoming a mother in 2018, Amy discovered the research-supported, internationally recognized children's music program, Music Together, and began compiling other music and instruments and sensory props that she and her daughter could enjoy together.
After attending a Baby and Me class at Starbright Language Center, Amy felt an educational philosophy kinship with owner/creator Valerie Hendley and center director Ashley Doughty in that Starbright respect's children's potential to grow and develop based on their own instincts and tendencies. Amy began creating music classes for Starbright children in Paducah and in Murray, Kentucky. Classes include introduction to an eclectic compilation of music with an emphasis on folk, traditional, jazz, blues, and world music genres. Collaboration with regional musicians, artists, and dancers create a truly unique and culturally-rich experience for participants.
"My daughter loves RivaRhythms Music and Movement. We’ve been the lucky recipients of this class from the very beginning since we attend StarBright’s 2 year old preschool. I’ve stayed for a few classes and participated myself and it’s so much fun watching the kids and seeing how much they love this specific class."
